Mancs for the Memories
The track is a Mancunian classic, and along with playing it, Clint attaches a little story about the song/artist to it.
Road Rage Remedy
Clint has a feature called Road Rage Remedy, where he plays some gentle music to cool down the road-ragers at the height of the rush hour. This is often a piece of acoustic music performed live by either an established artist or a new local artist. Big names so far have included Cherry Ghost and Liam Fray of The Courteeners. Sometimes, we play a downbeat mellow record, or a track from a previous session from our archive!
Boon's Breakthrough Track
Do you think we should release a track onto the Xfm Playlist or not? Each day in drive, Clint will feature a different track, asking listeners to get in touch and let him know what they think of it and whether they think we should playlist it.
Single of the Week
This may be a track that has just been released, is set to be released of just a track that he’s buzzing from!
20 Questions For... Clint Boon
1. Name? A tough one to start, we know.
"Clint Boon"
2. Age?
"46"
3. Born?
"Oldham, slightly north east of Manchester."
4. What do you love most about Manchester?
"The people, the relatively small size of the city, the fact that you can see the sky when you’re in the city centre, our musical heritage and, finally, the way the musicians all support each other"
5. What is your favourite area of Manchester?
"Architecturally, Castlefield. Vibe-wise, Oldham Street."
6. What would be your perfect evening?
"My wedding night in September last year was a perfect evening. 400 of our friends and relatives gathered in a great restaurant (Le Figaro, Chapel Walk if you're interested) with Mani DJing, Ian McNabb (of Icicle Works) singing for us and a great band from Wrexham called Crosbi playing a set.
"The food was incredible. We spent the night in the most amazing hotel, The Old Schoolhouse on Great John Street, next to Granada TV. That was a perfect evening. Expensive though..."
7. What is you favourite Manchester restaurant?
"Tampopo, Albert Square.."
8. What is you favourite Manchester bar?
"Corbierre’s for the juke box, Dry Bar for the memories."
9. What is your favourite Manchester club?
"South nightclub on South King Street."
10. Who is you favourite band of all time?
"Pick from: The Fall, The Doors, Happy Mondays, The Beach Boys, Can, Doves, REM. It changes on a daily basis."
11. What is you favourite album of last 12 months?
"The Go! Team 'Thunder Lightning Strike'"
12. What is your favourite film of last 12 months?
"No Direction Home, the Martin Scorsese movie about Bob Dylan"
13. What is your greatest achievement?
"Being able to make a living for the last 20 years through my love of music. I don’t consider myself to be particularly great as a keyboard player, a singer, a club DJ or a radio presenter. I get away with murder really."
14. What is the highlight of your career so far?
"Physically, headlining the Reading Festival with The Inspirals in 1990. It was my wife’s ninth birthday. Um, she wasn’t my wife at the time, by the way. Emotionally, meeting and getting to know John Peel."
15. What do you think Xfm brings to Manchester?
"The best in new music, aaaand the latest single by Fall Out Boy. Seriously though, an amazing platform for unsigned bands and a kind of radio this city has never heard before. One of the greatest travesties of our lifetime is that the world’s most important music city has never had a radio station which celebrates our musical heritage."
16. What can people tuning into your show expect to hear?
"A sometimes incoherent and slightly giddy Oldham accent punctuated by some of the best new records around. Maybe a bit of Elvis."
17. Which song did you want played first on Xfm?
"The Fall's 'Hit The North'! Both symbolic and beautiful."
18. Football?
"I don’t follow football or support a team. I do however sometimes get the urge to tackle the ball off little kids in the park and dribble it past the goalie. Is that normal?!"
19. What was the first single you ever bought?
"With my own money, it was 'ABC' by the Jackson 5. But my mum and dad had a corner shop and they used to have singles on the counter for 4 shillings each so by the time I bought my first record I already had quite a nice little collection."
20. ...And the first gig?
"That would be Dr. Feelgood at Manchester Opera House in 1975 ish. And then soon after that Showaddywaddy, I was a big fan of theirs..."
