Princess Beatrice has said her mother, the Duchess of York, is "doing really well" after a double cancer scare.

Sarah Ferguson was diagnosed with skin cancer in January, just six months after being treated for breast cancer.

Speaking in her first live TV interview on This Morning, Princess Beatrice said her mother was "all clear" and "thriving" at 64.

"She's been through so much but I think really now she's really coming into her own," she said.

The duchess has urged people to not to skip their health check-ups - a message the princess echoed.

"We're just reminded, when any parent or individual has a health scenario, just really get the checks that you need to get," she told the programme.

"My sister and I are so proud of her for taking the steps to get those checks," she said, adding they "modelled" their approach to health on their mother.

This Morning host Craig Doyle addressed what he called a "heavy-going" period for the Royal Family, with the King and Princess of Wales also undergoing cancer treatment.

"It's been a tough year for all of you across the board," he said, to which the princess responded: "There's nothing more important than family."

Princess Beatrice was speaking from the top of the Empire State Building, where she was taking part in an event for Outward Bound, a charity she supports.

The King returned to public duties for the first time since his diagnosis last week, although he is still undergoing treatment for an undisclosed cancer.

Kate revealed her diagnosis in a video message in March, saying she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy for a cancer found following abdominal surgery.

The Duchess of York sent her well wishes after the announcement, saying: "As someone who has faced their own battles with cancer in recent months, I am full of admiration for the way she has spoken publicly about her diagnosis and know it will do a tremendous amount of good to raise awareness."
