U2 Announce LP Title And Head For Hall of Fame

In a U2 music news explosion the band have confirmed the title of their long-awaited new record, lead the nominations for this year’s US Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall Of Fame, feature in the newly created UK Music Hall Of Fame and been involved a new Batman cartoon series.

U2 have announced that their new album is to be called ‘How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb’ and is due out on November 22. The name, predicted by Xfm Online and strongly rumoured on fan-sites for some time, is said to have been suggested by artist Damien Hirst after he was played some of the new material.

A new single entitled ‘Vertigo’ (originally thought to be the album’s name) is expected to start getting radio play in late September with a rumoured November 8 release. Tracks also set for inclusion on the album include ‘Man And A Woman’, ‘Yahweh’, ‘Crumbs From Your Table’ and ‘City Of Blinding Lights’.

In other U2-related news, the stadium rockers have been confirmed among the list of nominees for this year’s American Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall Of Fame. Also on the list are the Sex Pistols (ironic for a group who’s frontman once described the Hall Of Fame as a "place where old rockers go to die."), Patti Smith, The Stooges, Lynyrd Skynyrd and hip-hop pioneers Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five - the first rap act to ever be nominated.

Voters have received their ballot forms, with performers who receive the highest number of votes (and more than 50 percent of the vote) to be inducted. The inductees will be announced sometime in November, with the ceremony scheduled to take place in March.

The band are also one of the five ‘founder members’ to be automatically inducted into newly created UK Music Hall Of Fame alongside Bob Marley, The Beatles, Madonna and Elvis. The UK answer to the American institution is set to begin on Channel Four this autumn and will take the form of five two-hour specials in which five inductees will be picked by the public from the 10 nominations per programme, joining the five founder members at the first induction ceremony.

And, once again, that flashing bat signal in the sky has lured The Edge to duty as it’s reported that, nine year’s after the release of the Batman Forever theme ‘Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me’, the guitarist has recorded the theme song to ‘The Batman’, a new animated series that premiered this week on the WB network. As if he wasn’t busy enough already…
