Mozza Pulls Isle Of Wight Festival - UPDATE

added 31 May 2005 at 10.47

According to a statement posted this morning on his official website, Morrissey will no longer be headlining this year’s Isle Of Wight Festival. However, Morrissey has hit back at claims he's pulled out rubbishing rumours of a break-up of his band and new album pressures as the reasons for his last minute cancellation.

According to Mozza’s official website, the star was unable to fulfill his headline commitments at this year’s Isle Of Wight Festival due to “the pressure of preparing the new album” with a statement reading:

Morrissey will regrettably not be appearing at the Isle Of Wight Festival on the June 11 as scheduled. The pressure of preparing the new album and losing his drummer earlier this month has made it impossible to do the gig without massively compromising both the gig and the album. Apologies to all the fans, the organisers and the people of the Isle Of Wight.”

However, following this announcement Morrissey fansites are publishing a statement claiming to be directly from the man himself:

“I have not ever, at any time, agreed to play the Isle of Wight Festival. The announcement that I would play was made by Sanctuary — and it was their error.”

The statement continues, claiming that Morrissey is still working with his current drummer Deano, and that the star has no control over his official site and it's contents. Sanctuary declined to comment on the situation.

It’s currently unclear whether a replacement will be found to fill the Saturday headline spot or whether Roxy Music, currently scheduled to appear second on the bill as 'Special Guests', will be bumped up the bill.
