Kinks Founder Recovering From Stroke

Dave Davies, guitarist and founder of legendary ‘60s outfit The Kinks has been recovering from a severe stroke that left the right side of his body totally paralysed.

Dave Davies, whose brother Ray is The Kinks frontman and lyricist, collapsed after doing interviews to promote his new solo album ‘Bug’ on June 30. The 57-year-old guitarist was rushed to hospital where it was discovered he’d had a severe stroke.

It now appears that while he is recovering well, he’ll spend at least another month in hospital, but he is expected to make a full recovery with physiotherapy.

"He is paralysed on the right-hand side of his body, but he retains some feeling and he can still hold a guitar plectrum," explained spokesman for the guitarist Alan Robinson., "These small things mean a hell of a lot. They're small but very important."

"Dave is taking his illness with typical good humour, and with a positive demeanour,"

Despite having a notoriously volatile relationship during the history of The Kinks (even resorting to blows on occasion) Ray and Dave Davies had been in talks to reform the band for a series of dates to celebrate the 40th anniversary reunion of their first number one single ‘You Really Got Me’.
