X-clusive: Electric Six Vs Jackass At Download

added 08 June 2004 at 12.55

At a generally incident-free Download festival, Jackass' uber-controversial Steve-O and Party Boy trashed Electric Six's dressing room and provided the audience with eggs to throw at them. Xfm Online spoke exclusively to Dick Valentine about following Steve-O's 'show', writing 'Gay Bar II' and dwarf tossing.

The trouble started when Steve-O left presents of eggs with the audience at the end of their 'Wild Boyz' show on Saturday afternoon (June 5) with the remark "I want you to take good care of these and leave them unbroken…until the next act [Electric Six] comes on."

Trouble continued later that night when Steve-O and Chris 'Party Boy' Pontious (complete with a video camera crew) stormed the band's dressing room. Pontious then called a Six band member over to the window before smashing it with his fist and hurling obscenities at the group. Security quickly removed the pair. Following the incident, Electric Six have declined to comment on the event.

Its unclear what sparked the trouble, however, as prior to the groups' performances Electric Six mainman Dick Valentine spoke to exclusively to Xfm Online earlier in the day saying he was looking forward to the pair's show:

"It sounds cool, I'll have to check them out," Valentine said. "We'll try and follow it, and if we don't steal the show so what. But we will - we're gonna toss a dwarf around up there.

"We are hoping to have a new record out first thing 2005 - a New Year's gift. We're kind of like 'Hey don't forget about us, we know you want to, but we won't let you.' We'll do a tour in January as well. We're working on 'Gay Bar II' which is actually sounding a lot like 'Danger! High Voltage'. It'll take us to the next level. Then 'Dive Bar' will jump us up even more and 'Strip Bar' should put us damn near to heaven."

The band are also playing a number of other new songs in their live set as they ready the follow-up to 2003's album 'Fire'.

"We're playing 'Be My Dark Angel', 'Dance Epidemic' and 'Telephone Conversation' at the moment," Valentine explained. "There are a few new songs that you could put in the 'Radically Different' category, but none of those would qualify."

Valentine also revealed the band's secret for a good live show and his manifesto for the next twelve months, saying:

"You get off stage, and if my old man is there and he burns me with a cigarette then I know we've done something wrong. But if he's not there then its party time.I think everybody out there at home is doing a great job, so don't nobody go nowhere and together we can all do a great job next year."
