Dr. Dre Bins 'Detox' Concept Album

Set to be the "The most musically advanced hip-hop album ever", super-producer Dr Dre has ditched work on what was to be one of the most highly anticipated hip-hop album of the year. Set to be Dre's final album, rumours are circulating that he may now retire as an artist to concentrate on full-time production.

Having previously produced records for everyone from Beyoncé to Gwen Stefani, as well as releasing a series of acclaimed solo records, the next Dr Dre record was touted as to be his best. While other hip-hop stars had either the flow or the production values, Dre always had both, making him one of the twentieth century's most influential rap figures.

However, last week Dre's long-awaited 'Detox' album was reported to have been scrapped. Already delayed several times since its 2001 conception, hip-hop magazine XXL revealed the project had been dropped completely.

Set to feature guest spots from hip-hop's crème-de-la-crème, the album was described by the man himself as a "hip-hop musical", and revealed that it would have a conceptual bent with a story flowing through the tracks.

Planned to appear on the record were long-time co-conspirator Snoop Dogg, as well as 50 Cent, Eminem, Knoc-Turn'al, Busta Rhymes, and G-Unit's Lloyd Banks.

"The whole family is gonna be on there," co-producer Steve Storch had said. "If not the last Dre album, this is gonna be one of the last Dre albums we're gonna get. So he's putting a lot into it. It's just a matter of making a classic experience."

It was rumoured that Dre would bow out of the music business once 'Detox' was complete, however he is about to start production work on Busta Rhymes' forthcoming album as well as upcoming releases from Eminem and 50 Cent, leaving his future uncertain.
