X-clusive: Auf Der Maur Meets Morrissey

added 11 February 2004 at 16.38

Newly solo stateside rockster Melissa Auf Der Maur has been talking exclusively to Xfm Online about playing the festivals, making peace with Courtney Love and recording love duet ballads with Morrissey.

Speaking exclusively to Xfm the onetime Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bassist has explained that despite the near identical release dates of her and her former Hole bandmate Courtney Love, there is no bad blood between the two.

“People haven’t been doing it [claiming the timing as a publicity stunt] to my face,” Auf Der Maur explained, “And anyway, I’m not pissed cos she’s a big part of my life. It’s very silly and funny that the two records are coming out at the same time. We’re sisters living in a parallel rock universe. It’s bound to happen.”

Despite the fact that her new album includes guest appearances by Smashing PumpkinsJames Iha, Hole's Eric Erlandson, Rocket From The Crypt's Atom Willard, and QOTSA mainmen Nick Oliveri and Josh Homme, it seems there’s only one name on her collaboration list.

“The whole thing is a call out for Morrissey.” She explained, “Morrissey for a duet is pretty much all I want to achieve… Morrissey or maybe Danzig. One of those two better do a love ballad with me. Nobody steal my idea though. I’m the only red-headed fair maiden that should be doing duets with those two.

“I’m very excited about the Morrissey album I’m sure it will be great. All of his material I love."

She went on to explain that she would be appearing in a field in the UK later this year, saying, “I’m definitely playing the festivals this summer. I really wanna give a live life to this album I’ve recorded”.
