“We’re Daniel Bedingfield’s Second Fave Band” say Bloc Party

Kele and Matt shamefacedly drop a bombshell by admitting they’re loved by Bedingers on their first stint as Xfm DJs during The Residency.

Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke and Matt Tong admitted they were Daniel Bedingfield’s second favourite band behind obtuse art-rockers Deerhoof. Bedingfield allegedly broke the news to the band after a chance meeting in New York.

The band’s first Residency show included a typically eclectic choice of music. Abba, LFO, The Slits and a song from the sound track to Annie got a spin, although drummer Matt Tong unconvincingly tried to blame the latter on his wife.

“When I was compiling this list my wife started looking over my shoulder. The only way I could get her to go away was by agreeing to play something by Annie”, said the drummer dubiously.

The band also took a leaf out of Steve Harris’ book with the occasional ‘Boom!’  and branded Kylie’s ‘The One’ a “Bangatron!”.
