That Was The Week That Was….

Prodigy large

It’s the firestartin’, Manc shoutin’, VIP pass wavin’, brain whackin’, bad tempered, Liam spottin’, scene stealin’, knicker sniffin’, gig playin’, kitten pettin’, Elvis lovin’, story weaving, Xfm Music News Review.

Before our live coverage of the Oasis weekender at Finsbury Park last week, Xfm News loitered about backstage under the impression that two days of flagrant schmoosing and vicious gossip mongering would provide us with enough breaking stories to allow us to have the rest of the week off. However the celebrity count number was so low (Gianni DiMarco from Eastenders and Spencer from Big Brother) that we had no choice but to pick up the chase again on Monday.

Luckily we had nothing to fear, not only are the mono-browed battling Burnage brothers the subject of a new retrospective photographic exhibition, but Xfm bagged exclusive coverage of a vintage Noel Gallagher rant, as Mr G senior tore apart the British music industry in his own inevitable style. Hello, it’s good to be back, etc.

In another Xfm exclusive we also found ourselves on the set of the new Oasis video for ‘Little By Little’. How exciting does that sound? (even if we actually just stood around for four hours taking photos of the back of Liam’s head while he chatted to his surprise co-star Robert Carlyle).

Meanwhile were concerned when we heard that Travis drummer Neil Primrose suffered back injuries while larking about in a swimming pool in France. And we were even more worried to discover that he had to undergo surgery. Happily we can now report that the surgery was “successful in stabilising the multiple fractures in his upper vertebrae” and is well on the road to recovery. We wish him all the best.

The entire Prodigy also swung by Xfm and revealed exclusive details of their new album release (out “March next year”), along with what’s been inspiring Prod mainman Liam Howlett recently. The band were also remarkably frank about the meaning behind the controversial single ‘Baby’s Got A Temper.’

New material is also on the way from grunge godfathers Mudhoney, Eminem, new mods on the block The Beatings and from Beck, who has started previewing his new album and has just confirmed his appearance in a new (and very strange sounding) film, as himself.

And finally a quick game of ‘Seven Degrees Of News Separation’. Beck appeared in an episode of The Simpsons, which has just announced The Rolling Stones as their latest guest stars. The Stones are releasing new unheard vintage material this year as are Blur. Damon Albarn’s ex-missus Justin Frichman used to play with Suede who will be performing at secret gig in London next week. Elvis had a song called ‘Blue Suede Shoes’, and the King looks set to be ousted from his throne (unfairly) to make way for Gareth Gates (oh, the shame). Gates was found through ‘Pop Idol’ auditions, similar to the ‘Guitar Idol’ ones Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst staged to look for the replacement to Wes Borland, who’ve been rowing again this week, and on, and on, and on….

You see? I am the weaver.
