And The Winner Is...

Pete Mitchell polled you, the Xfm massive, as to which is the greatest album to come from the hallowed city of Manchester. Want to know who won?

Over the last couple of weeks Pete Mitchell has been trying to determine which is the greatest Manchester album of all time. We asked you what you thought. Do you still dance to Joy Division, or were Buzzcocks bigger in your house? Did you hate it when James became successful, or do you put your money on 'The Queen Is Dead'? And which Oasis album is best?

Well, the votes are in and they're all counted. And here's the Top 10 as voted by YOU...

1. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
2. The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
3. Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
4. The Verve - Urban Hymns
5. 808 State - Ninety
6. Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory
7. Oasis - Definitely Maybe
8. Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
9. Doves - Lost Souls
10. James - Gold Mother

As for the "wild cards", those albums that didn't get a look in, there were a few honourable mentions.

The Chameleons - 'Script Of The Bridge'
"It was the best debut album of all time from the most under-rated band of their generation," says Steve Clare. "That is all."

The Courteeners - 'St Jude'
"It is totally underrated or just disliked, but it needs to be recognized a little more," says Robin Cunningham. "For me it seems to sum the past great Mancunian bands, as I wasn't around then."

The Stockholm Monsters - 'Alma Mater'
"Probably one of the least played groups and one of the best," says Jason Plant. "So why not play one of the fine tunes they did? A lot of their tunes are good beer spillers as well."

New Fast Automatic Daffodils - 'Body Exit Mind'
"Not only for Andy Spearpoint's amazingly individual vocal style (Manchester bands are amazing for their array of individuality)," says Simon Green. "But also because 'It's Not What You Know' is one of the finest songs ever recorded."

And finally, a mention for "Only Forever" by Puressence. But only because the massed ranks of the Puressence message board descended on the site and voted it in.

What do you think? A good call? Or was Puressence robbed? Discuss! Leave a comment here!
