The Aliens 'Xfm Session' [Dial-Up] [Broadband]
With the highly popular and influential Beta Band having split in 2004 the fractured remnants of the band pursued their own career with front man Steve Mason focusing on his recently released King Biscuit Time album.
Two of the three founding members of The Beta Band, Robin Jones and John Mclean reunited with other founder Lone Pigeon aka Gordon Anderson who left the band soon after achieving success with ‘Dry The Rain’ and from then on The Aliens were born, announcing their arrival with the excellent ‘Alienoid Starmonica’ EP released earlier this year.
Currently working on their debut album keep a look out as The Aliens are touring around the country and playing both Green Man and Bestival over the summer.
Kicking things off is their wonderful debut single ‘Robot Man’ [Dial-Up] [Broadband] which mixes disco synths, funky bass and that highly infectious refrain of ‘I am the robot man’ before transforming into a rock out anthem half way through, pure class.
Next up is the frantic yet no less joyous ‘The Happy Song’ [Dial-Up] [Broadband] which is a euphoric slice of off kilter, folk flavoured rock that leads perfectly into the epic, six minute session closer ‘Setting Sun’ [Dial-Up] [Broadband] which sees The Aliens descend into a heady mix of trippy psychedelics and punk rock bringing this typically eclectic session to a fitting end.
