Matt Dyson
Name:
Matt Dyson
Place of birth:
Salisbury.
Describe your Xfm show in three words:
Breakfast: Bloody Fucking Unmissable
What's listed as your occupation on your passport?
Journalist
What was your first job?
Delivering free newspapers in Nottingham (... there's a knack in dumping them - I managed to
get away with it for months before the bosses found out.)
What's your favourite place in London?
Tooting Bec Lido is up there... as is my leafy little rented cottage in Ealing.
What would be your perfect evening?
Watch Forest away, followed by drinks; next, to a gig, then onto Nando's before popping into to my own private cinema, finished off by flying to Goa for at least a month. Please.
Who is your favourite artist of all time?
Johnny Cash
Which musician would you most like to be, living or dead?
"Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" (got the impression down and everything)
What was the first album you bought?
The Beastie Boys' debut: Licensed to Ill
Which is your favourite album of all time?
Badly Drawn Boy, The Hour Of Bewilderbeast - or The Streets Original Pirate Material.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
Becoming a father... and stopping smoking (the former wouldn't have happened had I not done the latter - all that carbon monoxide makes the soldiers sluggish. Apparently.)
What is the highlight of your career so far?
Getting a job at Xfm... and doing a show from Ibiza Rocks with Steve Harris.
...And what is the low point?
Going green and nearly vomitting in front of the old boss during that Cafe Mambo show.
If your show was a biscuit, what kind of biscuit would it be?
The Digestive Cream: a rare gem.
What was the first ever gig you went to?
Cypress Hill at Sheffield Octogan in the mid 90s
What's your idea of hell?
If I found myself in one of these new shit 'heightened reality' tv shows like fucking TOWIE
and the Chelsea wankers one. (Note: my Fiancee tries to force me to watch them under duress. I don't.)
Which bad habit irritates you the most?
Rudeness on public transport.
What's your favourite film?
Anything by Shane Meadows (except Once Upon a Time in the Midlands) or The Shining.
Who is your hero?
The late, great, Brian Clough - was privileged to meet him a few times before he died. A true legend.
We're buying - what's your tipple?
Pint of Guinness please - Tia Maria depth charge optional.
What do you think about when the records are playing on Xfm?
Usually, what we're doing next, but often 'I hope the mic wasn't up when I just swore/made an inappropriate comment then'
What did you dream last night?
I have a 'Work Nightmare', every Sunday night - the news jingle starts and I've got nothing to read out. Not actually happened as yet - thank Christ...
What's in your pockets at the moment?
I wouldn't be without my Nando's 'free chicken' High Five card, Virgin Active Gym pass and Vue cinema VIP card - good god, I love those little blighters.
Is the glass half empty or half full?
Half Full. What's the point otherwise?
What is your best childhood memory?
Watching my two older brothers leap out of the bath like little salmon after I 'laid a log' one evening as my Dad looked on, while playing Simon and Garfunkel songs on his acoustic guitar. Ah the Sound of Silence...
If you could meet any one person (from history or currently alive), who would it be?
Having already met 'Old Big Ed', Adam Richmond from Man v Food. I fucking love that show.
What's your catchphrase?
'Send me free stuff!'
What is the most important thing in life?
My Fiancee and my soon-to-be-born little girl.
How would you sum up Xfm in one word?
Shit-hot (does that count as one word?)
