Not for Rick our usual questionnaire. He's an international man of mystery, Xfm's very own chess grand master and an authority on lighthouses of the world. No, really. So, just for you, let us present...
Rick Shaw's Top Ten Lighthouses
10. Elbow Reef Set in the beautiful, tranquil Bahamas, I might only like it because of this
9. Monumental La SerenaThis one has been in use since 1950. Nobody lives in it, but it can be found at 28 degrees south. Stunning.
8. Skagens Rev (Denmark)If I’m honest, I just like the name.
7. Wonga ShodThis is a glorious lighthouse that is understated yet bold enough to command presence. It's yellow.
6. The Lighthouse of Alexandria (Egypt)It was one of the tallest man-made structures on earth for centuries. It isn't any more, but it is made out of stone and looks a bit like the Statue Of Liberty
5. Roman Lighthouse (Dover Castle)Quaint, but a bit wonky
4. Hyperboloid Adziogol (Ukraine)Looks a bit like the Eiffel Tower but fatter in the middle. Very imposing yet commands respect from all lighthouse lovers.
3. Split Point Lighthouse (Australia)Very simple and traditional.
2. Kopu Lighthouse (Estonia)Delicious and sexy. It’s the third oldest operating lighthouse in the world, but could show the young ‘uns a thing or two. Glorious.
1. The Lighthouse (St. Paul Island)Looks like a tab end.
