Wu Tang Clan Member Caused Jack White Solo Album
Jack White's told Xfm his debut solo album only came about thanks to a cancellation by one of the members of the hip hop collective....
Speaking to Xfm's John Kennedy the former White Stripes man explained it was a twist of fate that lead to the his decision to go solo and make debut album Blunderbuss.
"It was scheduled that RZA was gonna come in and do a 45 for Third Man [Jack's record label] and he had to cancel so we had a day where some session musicians had flown in for that recording and I didn't know what to do with them," he explained. "So I said, 'well, we'll work on something of mine'. I'm kind of thankful to RZA that he had to cancel that day because it turned into what became the album."
Despite never planning to record a debut solo album Jack confessed that he falls into these situations more than most.
"I just recorded a song or two - I didn't know what is was for. It sort of just happened by accident really. I hear myself saying this over the years over and over again - about The Raconteurs or The Dead Weather - telling people 'it started like an accident'... and it's happened again."
He also confessed that the end of The White Stripes made it easier to go solo - as well as the fact the members of his other bands are busy at the moment.
And make sure you catch the full interview on Tuesday night - on Xposure, with John Kennedy, from 11pm.
