Ringo Starr's Birthplace Saved From Demolition

added 15 June 2012 at 13.00

After a massive campaign by fans the terraced house in Liverpool will no longer be knocked down...

Initially those with the power over these things had decided that 9 Madryn Street was not worth saving because, although the Beatle was born there, he didn't spent much life there beyond that.

The house is one of several hundred in the Dingle area of the city marked for redevelopment - however now the money will be used to redevelop the houses as they are rather than knocking them down.

The drummer's former home will now be refurbished instead.
