Joy Division - 'Unknown Pleasures'

added 02 July 2009 at 14.54

The sound of post-industrial, post-punk Manchester... and the holy voice of Ian Curtis.

Thirty years later, the influence of Joy Division's debut album still can be heard in new bands. Editors, White Lies, Interpol... they wouldn't have existed without these ten songs recorded in a small studio in Stockport. The opening track 'Disorder' sets the tone: dislocated drums, urban decay and the low baritone of the late Ian Curtis. There's also the stunning 'Shadowplay', the emotional 'New Dawn Fades' and the harrowing 'She's Lost Control', all dressed in one of the most stylish and enigmatic covers ever.
Top tune: 'She's Lost Control'
