Paul McCartney Heart Scare

added 02 January 2008 at 10.44

A spokesperson for Sir Paul McCartney has confirmed that the former Beatle underwent a "routine medical operation" on his heart at the end of last year.

According to reports in The Sun, McCartney had a coronary angioplasty following complaints of ill health. The operation opens up the heart's arteries in order to stimulate improved blood flow and took place at a private hospital last autumn.

An unnamed - what else? - friend of McCartney's told the newspaper: “Luckily Paul is in very good shape. He does regular exercise and is fit.

"He eats well and does not carry any excess weight. He has always been in exceptional health, which is remarkable when you think of the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle he once had.”

As previously reported, Paul McCartney will be holding his thumbs aloft once more when he receives the Outstanding Contribution To Music at this year's Brit Awards which take place in London's Earls Court on February 20
