McCartney Gets Back Ahead Of Brits

added 19 February 2008 at 17.27

Ahead of receiving the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award at the Brits, Paul McCartney has paused to look back at what's been.

Speaking before tonight's Brit Awards, Sir Paul McCartney has spoken of his feelings about receiving his award and how he'd have turned it down if it had been the Lifetime Achievement Award. He said:

"I try to avoid those 'cause it feels like you're gonna die the next second so it's actually called the Outstanding Contribution."

He added: "It's a euphamism." [Listen]

Sir Paul also talked of how recording at the world famous Abbey Road studios - the place where The Beatles recorded the majority of their work - brought back memories of working with The Fab Four:

"John [Lennon] and George [Harrison] aren't here so when you go to Abbey Road that's the nearest [to a Beatles reunion] that I'm gonna get and it's just as if I've come in on a Beatles session. [Listen]

"And it's just all the memories come flooding back, patrticularly in Abbey Road Number 2 studio...which is where most of [The Beatles'] recording was done there. But y'know, when I go in there I can still see Ringo [Starr] in the back of the room with his kit and then John there and George there and me here and our amps there. [Listen]

"I love it. It's got really warm memories for me...it just brings me closer to my past." [Listen To Full Answer]
