'Control' - Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis' biopic - dominated the British Independent Film Award's ceremony scooping a massive five awards including Best Film.

The biographical film about Curtis's life - filmed in Nottingham within a tight budget of just three million - scooped a whopping five prizes at the British Independent Film Awards including the prestigious award for Best Film.

Sam Riley - who previously played in the band 'Ten Thousand Things' and had never acted in a movie before - scooped the Best Actor gong.

With top artists such as The Killers, New Order and David Bowie on the soundtrack, 'Control' tracks Curtis's rise to fame culminating in a heart-wrenching portrayal of his suicide aged 23 in 1980

Dutch director Anton Corbijn - the photographer known for the cover of U2's Joshua Tree album and long term friend of Joy Division - cleaned up winning Best Director and Best Debut Director.

Co-star Toby Kebbell - who delivers some much needed comic relief in his role as Rob Gretton, the band's late manager - picked up the Best Supporting Actor gong for his efforts at the ceremony held at London's Roundhouse on November 28.
