Franz Ferdinand Get Dirty

added 18 January 2008 at 12.45

Franz Ferdinand have told fans to expect a dirtier sound when the quartet return with their third album later this year.

Speaking with Billboard.com of the recording sessions for their new and much-anticipated album, singer, guitarist and foodie Alex Kapranos said:

"The ideas of making a dirty pop record - this is what's been on our minds."

The band has been busy at work recording in Glasgow after sessions on London proved unsatisfactory. Explained Kapranos:

"[The recordings] we did in Glasgow sounded much better. There was a real dirtiness, edge and attitude...this stuff made us want to get up and dance."

He also revealed that Franz Ferdinand has been throwing vintage synthesisers into the mix:

"We found this thing called a Polyvox, built by a Russian engineer in the late '70s. He'd heard what a Moog was and had heard the sounds, but had no idea how to make one. He worked out how it would be made and made his version of what he thought a synth would be."

The fruits of Franz Ferdinand's labour are expected to emerge in the summer.
