Foo Fighters and White Stripes Win At Grammys

added 25 February 2008 at 04.29

Both Foo Fighters and The White Stripes had nights to remember at the Grammys as they scooped four awards between them.

Jack'n'Meg picked up the prizes for Best Alternative Music Album and the bizarrely named Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.

Foo Fighters took home awards for Best Rock Album (presumably with vocals and/or instruments) and Best Hard Rock Performance. Dave Grohl and his gang performed with a full orchestra whose arrangements were created by Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones.

Elsewhere, troubled singer Amy Winehouse dominated the Grammys by scooping a record five gongs. But with the Hawley Arms a burnt out shell, where will she celebrate?

Depsite being granted a visa by U.S. authorities, Winehouse appeared at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles via satellite link up to perform 'Rehab' and 'You Know I'm No Good'.

A clearly stunned Winehouse - who won Record Of The Year, Best New Artist, Song Of The Year, Pop Vocal Album and Female Pop Vocal Performance - dedicated the first win to her label, parents, husband and neighbourhood saying:

"Thank you to everyone at Island, my mum and dad. This is for my Blake, my Blake incarcerated and for London because Camden Town is burning down."

Winehouse has been in rehab (yes, yes, yes) for the past fortnight.

On sad note, Feist left empty-handed depsite four nominations and winning last week's Shortlist Prize.
