Flaming Lips and British Sea Power for Jodrell Bank

OK Go and Alice Gold will also perform at the new event...

Live from Jodrell Bank will see a series of "musical programmes" taking place in the shadow of the Lovell telescope.

The plan is to bring together internationally - and nationally - renowned artists to perform at the site with the telescope used as "the world's most incredible projection screen".

The first event - Transmission 001 - will take place on Friday July 1 and Saturday July 2, with the four acts playing the second night.

Details are due to be announced on what will happen the night before.

Live from Jodrell Bank is the brainchild of the same people behind Kendal Calling and The Warehouse Project.

Co-promoter Andy Smith thinks this is the next step:

"We're a big fan of the unusual and the unique and by combining the incredible venue of Jodrell Bank and an amazing live performance by The Flaming Lips, this is going to undoubtedly be one of their most memorable shows. British Sea Power and OKGO are the perfect accompaniment - atmospheric and thrilling performances in equal measure. Roll on July!"
