Carl Barat's told Xfm he's planning to work on some new material with his old Libertines bandmate Pete Doherty when he comes back from rehab in Thailand...

The singer turned actor has most recently been seen appearing in Opera Pop'pea in Paris.

Soft Cell's Marc Almond also featured in the stage production which saw Barat sport a red leather costume in the role of Nero.

Speaking to Xfm's Gordon Smart the former Libertine confessed that - despite his former bandmate heading to rehab in Thailand - collaborative plans are afoot.

"At the moment I'm working really hard on a new solo album," he admitted. "And... before you bring it up... the Pete thing - I spoke to him before he went to rehab... and there could be something on the lines there."

But don't expect anything too soon he added.

"When he gets back, hopefully he'll be on the same page and we'll take it from there really," Carl explained. "In the meantime I'm working on this new album - I'm hoping for it to be done by the end of the year."

Carl Barat was talking to Gordon Smart on Smart on Sunday - listen to the show again.
