Blur Drummer For Parliament?

Blur tubthumper Dave Rowntree has kiboshed any remaining Blur reunion plans by announcing that he's to stand for Parliament. And no, we don't mean George Clinton's superfunky outfit either.
Rowntree is well known for his political passions. Last year he stood unsuccessfully at the Westminster City Council elections when he ran on the Labour Party's ticket.
Having been selected by the Labour Party to run at the next general election, the erstwhile drummer will go against the incumbant MP, Tory Mark Field, for the Cities Of London And Westminster constituency. Field secured a majority of 8,000 at the last election.
While the news puts the final nail in Blur's coffin, hopes at Labour's Milbank HQ remain high that Rowntree will be more successful in his transition from musician to MP than the late Screaming Lord Sutch of the Monster Raving Loony Party.
Other high profile moves from music to politics have included Midnight Oil's Peter Garrett, Sonny Bono and...er...that bloke from Runrig.
