The guitarist has been speaking to Xfm about former bandmate Peter Hook's new book about their old band…

Peter Hook has announced he's to release a new book – a memoir called Unknown Pleasures – Inside Joy Division – on October 1. It charts the band's "friendships, fall outs and camaraderie" and is the bassist's second book after The Hacienda – How Not to Run A Club.

Speaking to Xfm backstage at Open'er Festival in Poland last night his former Joy Division and New Order bandmate Bernard Sumner was very hesitant to express opinion on the subject, telling Xfm's Chloe Aust, "I've got to be very careful about my answer, it's important."

"He was in Joy Division so he has a right to write the book…." the New Order frontman continued, "But he's a very opinionated person and quite a lot of the time his opinions are wrong – so I'd be very wary of that book."

When asked if he would ever consider writing his own memoir – addressing the Joy Division years as well as his later success with New Order he responded:

"Eventually the truth always comes out doesn't it? One day the truth will come out."

New Order performed an incredible set, closing the first day of Heineken Open'er festival in Gdynia in Poland with a set of New Order classics and Joy Division's finest songs – closing with a crowd rousing performance of Love Will Tear Us Apart.
