R.E.M. Split Plans In The Pipeline for "Years"

Michael Stipe and Mike Mills have been telling Xfm about their decision to split-up after 31 years plus solo ambitions...

After the sad news that R.E.M. are splitting up Mike Mills and Michael Stipe from the US band have been updating us on their solo plans.

"I've actually spoken to several people with whom I'd like to write songs but I don't want to jinx it by naming names." Mike Mills told us... but the R.E.M. frontman was less forthcoming.

"I've no plans," Stipe emphasised.

The band's new Greatest Hits compilation is coming out on November 14 with the catchy title Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage 1982 - 2011.

The band announced they were splitting after more than three decades earlier this year... and it turns out they'd been thinking about calling it a day for a while.

"We'd been talking about it for a couple of years," Michael Stipe confided to Xfm in their last ever interview.

"It hadn't been an absolute final decision for a while but we were pretty sure it was coming for a good long time," Mike Mills continued, adding, "at the same time that was strictly between the three of us and no-one else so we didn't let that out."
