The Mercury effect has kicked in for Polly...

Sales of PJ Harvey's Mercury Prize-winning album Let England Shake have risen more than six times in the last couple of days.

Music Week reports that the singer's eighth album, which took home the coveted industry prize on Tuesday night, has seen a 658.5% rise in sales by the close of business the following day.

3,335 copies had been bought, which was a higher number than in any one full week in the last six months and the record looks set to crash back into the Top 75 this weekend. Its current position is 181.
