Next xx Album Will See 'Positive Difference'

The xx are playing Bestival this weekend before heading to America for 12 dates and say they are looking forward to some time off after a long stint on the road - and the chance to start work on their second album. 

Vocalist Romy Madley Croft says although they enjoyed touring, it has not helped the song writing process, "We've been on tour for a long time now and we haven't found it that creative. I think we like to work quite separately and with more space and so I think we are just going to get back to London and get back to songwriting and I think we are all really really excited for that."

But Romy says the band are going to give themselves a break before heading back into the studio, "Being in one place for more than one day is a luxury. Things like watching TV or seeing your friends or just going for a drink is quite special after being away for so long."

Their critically acclaimed debut album 'xx' won them this year's Barclaycard Mercury Prize and caused sales to go up 500% on Amazon in the hour afterwards.

But bassist and vocalist Oliver Sims has told Xfm that fans will have to wait to hear what direction they go in next, "There's lots of stuff we've learnt from touring and being in a lot of different places and hearing lots of new things but we genuinely don't have any idea what we are going to do yet."

Romy doesn't think that fans should be worried though, "I think with all the experiences we've had and the experience of playing every day it will sound different, whether we choose it to or not, but I hope it will be a positive difference"
