The Smiths: The Next Rage Against The Machine?

added 11 January 2010 at 17.35

A new Facebook group is hoping to send The Smiths' 'How Soon Is Now?' to the top of the UK singles chart.

Following in the footsteps of Rage Against The Machine's famous Christmas Number one upset, a similar Facebook group has been set-up to make The Smiths' 'How Soon Is Now?' number one.

The snappily titled group - 'The Smiths How Soon Is Now? For No1 Meat Is Murder 25th Anniversary' - is hoping the song will reach number one on February 7. As the group title suggests, it marks a quarter of a century since the landmark album was released.

While purists will grumble that the single wasn't originally on the British version of the album, a bigger hurdle will be growing the Facebook group's membership which currently stands at 6,500.
