Ray Davies: Mumford & Sons Have "This Weird Light" Around Them

added 17 November 2010 at 15.51

Marcus Mumford and co feature on his new album of collaborations....

'See My Friends' also features Metallica, Black Francis and Snowpatrol's Gary Lightbody helping him re-create some of The Kinks' classic tracks.

He told Xfm's John Kennedy that Mumford & Sons reminded himself of the old days:

"It reminded me very much of what it was like being in a band starting out. They are on a great roll at the moment as you hear on the track. That's what it was like with The Kinks when we started out doing single after single. You get this wierd light around you that makes you work in a certain way."

Mumford & Sons feature on the cover of 'Days/This Time Tomorrow'.

Ray told John he didn't have to work too hard to convince people to collaborate:

"The idea of doing the record never really kicked in until I did a show with Metallica at Madison Square Gardens last year, they backed me on 'You Really Got Me', then I met Bruce Springsteen backstage who said he'd heard about these recordings I was doing and he wanted to get involved."

'See My Friends' is out now.
