The xx - 'xx'
All hail the nu-shoegazers! Dream pop from SW London...
Originally a quartet, The xx formed back in 2005 at Elliott School in Putney around Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, Jamie Smith and Baria Qureshi, offering "dream pop" that referenced the likes of the Cocteau Twins and a touch of R&B and electronica.
Their debut 'xx' was released on XL in August 2009, while tours with The Big Pink and Michachu and The Shapes gave them more exposure. However, in November it was revealed that Qureshi was leaving and that The xx would continue as a trio.
