Florence & The Machine – 'Lungs'

The distinctive sound of Ms Florence Welch, now appearing... well, everywhere.
Based around the striking voice and personality of Florence Welch, the Machine features Robert Ackyroyd (guitar), Isabella Summers (aka the original "Isabella Machine", keyboards), Mark Saunders (bass), Tm Monger (harp) and Christopher Lloyd Hayden (drums). The original line-up also featured Devonte Hynes aka Lightspeed Champion.
As a teenager, Welch fronted bands such as Toxic Cockroches and Ashrok, before leaving to forge her own career. Working with Isabella Summers as Florence Robot Is A Machine, their shows began to attract critical acclaim around London. Dropping out of art school, Florence signed to indie Moshi Moshi, later transferring to the major Island in November 2008.
With plenty of press attention in the early months of 2009, Florencemania built over the festival season (she memorably climbed the scaffolding at Glastonbury's John Peel Tent) and the debut album 'Lungs' was released on July 6, but was memorably kept off the No. 1 spot by the recently-departed Michael Jackson.
