Mumford And Biffy Receive Mercury Boost

Two albums are selling well, according to stats...
Mumford and Sons are selling more than twice as many copies of their Mercury Prize nominated album than anyone else up for this years’ accolade according to Amazon.
The online retailer says 141% more copies of 'Sigh No More' are being sold than closest rival – Biffy Clyro’s 'Only Revolutions'’ – ahead of tomorrow night's ceremony.
"'Sigh No More' has been one of our top sellers not just in the music store but on Amazon.co.uk overall,” said head of music buying Julian Monaghan, "Mumford & Sons would be a popular choice this year but as we have seen from recent history, the Mercury Prize can spring a surprise. Last year’s winner Speech Debelle was a virtual unknown before she shot to number one on Amazon.co.uk with a 4,000% increase in sales in the hours that followed her 2009 win for the album 'Speech Therapy'."
However, it's not all bad news for the Biff - the band have jumped a massive 24 places up the album chart to number 3. A spokesman for the band’s record company is mainly putting the success down to a mixture of Mercury-induced publicity and a “massive performance” at this years’ Reading Festival.
Amazon reckons they are not the only ones benefiting from being nominated - The Kit Downes Trio has seen sales rise by more than 3,260% and I Am Kloot’s ‘Sky At Night’rose by 629%.
“It will be interesting, as it always is, to see whether one of the favourites or one of the relatively unknown artists walk away with the prize this year,” continued Julian, “There could even be a little bit of history in the making if Dizzee Rascal was to crown a hugely successful few years by becoming the first artist to win the award twice.”
