The singer slates country over animal welfare record...

Morrissey is causing controversy again after claiming that the Chinese are a "sub-species" because of the way they treat animals.

In an interview with The Guardian, the former Smiths frontman said: "Did you see the thing on the news about their treatment of animals and animal welfare? Absolutely horrific. You can't help but feel that the Chinese are a sub-species."

In 2008, the singer donated £28,000 to Love Music Hate Racism after a row erupted over his comments about immigration during an interview with the NME. Morrissey rebutted the accusations of racism, but the group say they will not accept his support any more.

Spokesman Martin Smith told The Daily Mirror: "It is crude racism. When you start using language like 'sub-species', you are entering into dark and murky water."
