Guns N'Roses "Bottled OffStage"

Axl and co get less than warm welcome in Dublin...

The on-off love affair between Guns N'Roses, their fans and various promoters continues. After a couple of rocky appearances over the weekend at the Reading and Leeds Festivals, in which the band appeared onstage late (even though Axl Rose claims this wasn't the case), their current tour entered a new phase of madness last night (September 1).

At The O2 Arena in Dublin, GN'R appeared onstage at 10.25pm - an hour and a half late, according to The Irish Times - to be met by a barrage of boos. As guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal tried to rouse the crowd by playing the opening riff of 'Welcome To The Jungle', he was met by a further chorus of booing and the odd "Fuck you" (delivered in a lovely Irish brogue, of course).

The disgruntlement continued into the second song, 'Welcome To The Jungle', when a bottle of water hit the stage. Stoppin the band, Rose said: "Here’s the deal, one more bottle, we go home. We want to stay. If you don’t want to have fun just let us know. We’ll be on our way."

Another bottle landed just 22 minutes later and the band upped and left the stage. After a further pause and an explanation of "technical difficulties", the promoter made an appearance, pleading: "We're trying hard to get Axl to come back on stage. I'd ask you please to refrain from throwing items at him. I promise a great show, but you have to calm. I'm sorry about that."

Following this, the house lights came on and most of the audience left, but half an hour later, the band came back on to complete the set to the remaining fans. The entire show wound up just before 1am.
