Gerard Way: New MCR Album "Was Hard Work"

The frontman has been telling Xfm all about the new album and upcoming tour...

My Chemical Romance are preparing to release new album 'Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys' in November and bring their 'World Contamination Tour' to the UK next month.

The album is the follow up to 2006's concept album 'The Black Parade' and the first single 'Na Na Na' is out November 8.

Speaking to Steve Harris on the O2 Evening Show lead singer Gerard Way said they started out attempting to do the opposite, but struggled. "It ended up somewhere in the middle. Does it tell a story? No, but are there stories in it? Yes. But is is also directly speaking to the world and for me the title means so many things. It's much like 'The Black Parade' title. For me 'The Fabulous Killjoys' is another way to describe the band and another way to describe the sound."

'The Black Parade' propelled the band into super-stardom but Way reckons there was no pressure to match it: "It was fun making this album, it was just hard, hard work. There were moment when you were mentally and physically exhausted and you actually had to keep going but it was the most fun we've ever had making an album because we felt truly, truly free. We weren't worried about how it connected to our previous efforts, we weren't worried about how it's gonna connect to the future we were just worried about what we are right now and that's exciting."

The band are about to head to the UK for the first time in three years. A video preview got 500,000 view in 48 hours and became YouTube's second most watched video.

"All the visuals were things that were in my head when we were working on 'Na Na',"  said Way, "we're really proud, we're very excited and the fanbase - I've heard - are very excited about how we are presenting ourselves this go around."

The tour dates are:

October 23 - HMV Hammersmith Apollo, London
October 24 - O2 Apollo, Manchester
October 25 - Corn Exchange, Edinburgh
