Alex James: "Blur Will Be Around Forever"

But the bassist claims he's now got the hardest job in the world...

Former Blur bassist Alex James has been exclusively talking to Xfm about his new life as a farmer.

"Bass player is probably the easiest job in the world," he says. "Now I've got the hardest one now, a farmer. You have to get up early. I thought I was sort of retiring for a quiet life, but I'm busier than ever. I love it though."

This time last year Blur had reformed and were getting ready for a string of live dates in summer... and Alex told us it already feels like a different world.

"It's funny how quickly it's in the past again. It was so wonderful in so many ways. What it means is there'll always be Blur, I guess, even if we're not playing. It sort of re-cemented the friendships between us. We needed some time apart and then we needed to get back together."

However, his big plans for 2010 don't include music: "This summer I'm going underground to my cheese bunker to invent some very smelly posh cheese."

James has been appointed the UK's first 'Travel Laureate',  and is writing a series of destination-themed books entitled ‘The VHip Collective’ that aim to provide a new, modern alternative to the traditional guide book. The first book is on New York - for more info, see www.vhiphotels.com.
