Xfm Meets White Lies At SXSW ‘09

Harry and Charles sidles up to Xfm at South By Southwest. They tell us about their ambitions to crack the States and their plans to take it to the next level back home.
White Lies singer Harry McVeigh and bassist Charles Cave joined us for a chat at South By Southwest 2009. Having wowed the crowds with a few barnstorming shows, sweeping success in the UK seemed on the cards.
In a chat with Xfm, they described the scene in Austin, about bringing a bit of quality to the festival and how they were going to conquer the States.
Can you describe what South By Southwest is like?
We kind of have something similar in the UK but not on this scale…
What are you hoping to get out of it?
When you have so many bands playing in one event
Is this the first step in conquering America?
It’s actually the third time we’ve been here, but yes…
Staggering success in the UK, what’s the vibe like in the US right now?
A little slower, but that’s understandable because it’s a vastly bigger country
Next couple of months in the UK – what does it hold?
I think our live show is evolving the whole time…
