U2 Announce "Revolutionary" Tour

The U2 360° tour will kick off in Barcelona and hit the UK in August...

U2 have announced details of their latest tour... and it's going to be in the round. The U2 360° Tour will open at the Nou Camp Stadium in Barcelona on June 30 and will feature "an innovative 360° design which affords an unobstructed view for the audience", according to a spokesman.

The tour - which will be sponsored by posh phone suppliers BlackBerry - is the first tour since 2006's Vertigo dates and has been specially designed to allow everyone in the audience to get a proper look at the band.

UK tour dates are as follows:

14th August - Wembley Stadium, London
18th August - Hampden Park, Glasgow
20th August - Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield
22nd August - Millennium Stadium, Cardiff

Tickets are to go on sale on Friday March 20. A dedicated microsite has been set up at www.u2.com.

Manager Paul McGuinness commented on the band's "credit crunch"-beating ticket prices, which The Edge unveiled to Xfm last week. "With 85 percent of the tickets priced at less than 95 Euro, general admission floor tickets priced at 55 euro and at least 10,000 tickets at every venue priced at around 30 Euro, we have worked very hard to ensure that U2 fans can purchase a great priced ticket with a guaranteed great view,¡± McGuinness said.

Support acts for the tour will include Elbow, Kaiser Chiefs, Glasvegas, Snow Patrol and, er, Black Eyed Peas.

In other U2 news, the band have hit the number one album spot with their latest, 'No Line On The Horizon'. It's the band's tenth number one album, meaning they're in the top five highest charting album acts of all time. Only THe Beatles and Elvis Presley have had more album chart-toppers, with the '2 equal third with the Rolling Stones and Madonna. Bringing up the rear are Abba and Queen with a paltry 9 No 1 albums to their credit, while Michael Jackson has only managed 8.
