The Edge: ‘I Was Wrong About Bono and Bush’

The U2 guitarist admits that his singer was “absolutely right” to get snapped with former US President George W Bush.
The Edge has spoken out about Bono’s cosying with former US President George Bush and the band conflict that came as a result. Speaking to Ian Camfield on Xfm last week, the guitarist said that he had tried to persuade the singer to not be photographed with the controversial politician.
“Famously, I tried to persuade him not to do a photograph with George Bush because I thought people would be confused and it would send out a weird message”, said The Edge.
“Again, he had thought it through and realised there was an opportunity there to get the Bush administration to step up and do something unprecedented for Africa”.
The Edge went on to admit that he was wrong about trying to intervene.
“It turned out [Bono] was absolutely right. Whatever the price he had to pay for the custard pies thrown by U2 fans and people who didn’t like Bush, I think it was worth it in the end”.
