Supergrass Side Project To Release Album

The Hot Rats are to release all-covers set...

Supergrass duo Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey have joined forces with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich to release an album of covers.

The Hot Rats have been busy recording after recent gigs and Coombes has told Xfm that they didn’t actually intend for the project to be taken so seriously: "It was never meant to be anything. We did a few gigs at two in the morning and Nigel Godrich came to a couple. We’ve been friends for a long time and thought it would be a laugh to get into the studio and have a bit of fun."

Coombes also revealed why they have chosen to cover the likes of The Kinks and the Beastie Boys. "We just thought, let’s record some of the stuff we’ve loved over the years that maybe people haven’t heard before," he said, "Or reawaken people to some of these great songs."

The pair, who were also responsible for previous Supergrass side project Diamond Hoo Ha Men, plan to showcase new material at the Reading and Leeds Festival over the August bank holiday weekend.

However, Supergrass fans fear not - a new album is on its way.
