Snow Patrol: "V Festival Was Our Best Gig Ever"

Gary Lightbody admits that standing in for Oasis was amazing...

Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody has told Xfm that their last minute headlining slot at V Festival in Chelmsford last month was "The single finest moment in our live career".

The band stepped into the breach to cover for Oasis, who pulled out of the festival at the eleventh hour and went on to crash and burn the following weekend with the departure of Noel Gallagher.

Talking to Xfm's Steve Harris, Lightbody claimed he wasn't nervous about facing a potentially angry mob of disappointed Oasis fans. "If the crowd had been against us, we'd have turned it around," he said. "It's what we do best - we're about the love. We were not about to let a crowd turn sour. But they were with us right from the start."

The resulting show was - in Gary's opinion - one of the best the band have ever played. "we've never come off stage with that amount of buoyancy - I was close to tears. It stands up against any crowd we've played to in Ireland or Scotland.  I've never seen anything like it in my life, the whole place was jumping. It was just so much fun."
