Oasis Top Best Song Of All Time Poll

added 01 September 2009 at 10.33

Xfm's Greatest Songs Ever rundown puts the troubled Mancs in the top spot...

Despite Noel Gallagher leaving over the weekend and the future of the band looking a tad rocky, Oasis should be pleased with themselves - their 1994 track 'Live Forever' has been named the No 1 Song Of All Time in an international poll.

Xfm teamed up with TripleJ in Australia and KROQ in Los Angeles to name the Top 100 Best Songs Ever for a very special countdown on Bank Holiday Monday (August 31) and the Gallaghers came up tops with three of the top five. Hot on the heels of 'Live Forever' were The Killers with 'Mr Brightside' making a very respectable number 2.

However, they were the only Americans in the Top 5, jostling with 'Don't Look Back In Anger' (3), 'Wonderwall' (4) and Joy Division's 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' at 5. The only other non-British act in the Top 10 were Nirvana, who made No 7 with 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'.

  3. But then again kate you are listening to Xfm which is focused on the indie/rock side of things, and thus the voters are bound to vote for the aforementioned genre of music. A better name would of been 100 greatest songs of all time for those who were about 20 in the 90's WHAT listen to xfm

  4. Pretty funny seeing as they (despite capturing the spirit of a generation) were a glorified beatles cover band...and yet the beatles gets no mention in the top 5!? Not hard to spot the demographic that cast their votes...
Best songs of all time? More like best songs of the past 20 years ( and a couple from the rest of 'ever') Also fairly biased on the genre front...if i didn't know better i'd think indie and rock were the only types of music ever created!
