Mongrel: ‘History is On Our Side’

Reverend John McClure speaks about the band’s decision to release their album as a newspaper cover-mount. They’re making history, he says.
Mongrel have told Xfm that their decision to release their debut album with a newspaper is in-keeping with the band’s adventurous bent.
“History is on our side”, said frontman John McClure. “It’s the first time a debut album has been given away in this way. The idea of this band is to be musically and lyrically experimental, take risks – which we have done – and put some music which has not necessarily been given the coverage it deserves into a wider spotlight”.
The band, which features the Rev, original Arctic Monkeys’ bass player Andy Nicholson, Babyshambles guitarist Drew McConnell and Lowkey, release their debut ‘Better Than Heavy’ through the Independent tomorrow (March 7).
Asked about what people could expect, McClure donned his journalist’s cap for a colourful description:
“It’s like The Clash doing Sandinista in Bob Marley’s backyard as Public Enemy watch and Rage Against The Machine cook some burgers at a barbeque”.
