Metallica’s Lars Ulrich To Join Deep Purple?

The Metallica sticksman offers his services to the legendary rockers, only to be dealt a swift knock-back by the band’s keyboardist.
What can you say about Lars Ulrich? He’s in the biggest metal band ever. He’s one of the most recognisable drummers in the world. He’s pretty good with two sticks and a load of things to hit. This, however, is not enough for fogey rockers Deep Purple, currently struggling to re-form for the 96th time.
The Metallica sticksman threw his hat into the ring after original Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice was unavailable. “I’ll volunteer myself”, said the Napster-loving Metallica man. Deep Purple’s keyboardist Jon Lord, however, wasn’t too impressed. In his blog, he said:
“I like Lars and what he has achieved with Metallica. He’s obviously always been very complementary in his comments about DP, and I love the story of his famous nine-years-old “baptism of fire” at our ‘73 concert in The KB Halle in Copenhagen, but if I was asked to be involved in a “Mark III” reunion… I would not be able to even imagine it without the presence of Ian Paice”.
Picky bugger, eh?
