Manchester Music Legend Dies

Johnny Roadhouse, owner of the city's most popular music store, passes away...
One of Manchester's most influential music figures, Johnny Roadhouse, has died. The saxophonist. who founded the hugely-popular Johnny Roadhouse Music store on the city's Oxford Road, passed away at Manchester Royal Infirmary early on Saturday April 11, following a short illness. "He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered, by all his family, friends and staff," said a statement on the store's website, www.johnnyroadhouse.co.uk.
Johnny Roadhouse Music probably set more Mancunian musicians on the road to fame and fortune than any other figure in the city's history. Half of Joy Division bought their first instruments there, while Oasis were frequent customers and paid tribute to the shop in the video to 'The Masterplan'.
"Every single band in Manchester has gone through Johnny Roadhouse Music at some stage - it's impossible not to," former Smiths drummer Mike Joyce told the Manchester Evening News.
