Guitarist Jez Williams chatted to Steve Harris ahead of playing the band’s eagerly awaited new single. You can hear the interview and the track now.

Steve Harris got Doves' guitarist Jez Williams on the phone to chat about the band’s forthcoming new single and album ‘Kingdom Of Rust’. The much-missed Manc three-piece are set to get firmly back in the saddle once the album is released on April 6.

Speaking to Steve, Jez said that the four years between albums had been immensely constructive and not at all the ‘holiday’ the long gap suggests.

“People always forget that when you put out an album you’ve also got another year and a half of touring it.

“We had a break from each other for five months… then we rented this place in Hatton between Manchester and Liverpool and went at it. That’s where we ended up recording the album”.

On the first single, also titled ‘Kingdom Of Rust’, Jez said:

“It was one of the earliest songs that came about on the album. I suppose it’s got this northern spaghetti western feel about it. It just had this atmosphere instantly once we started playing it”.

As well as the March tour dates [read more here], the band also plan to return to the UK in April for a bigger tour, before hitting the Summer festivals.
