Lily Allen Steps Down From File-Sharing Battle

The star quits the campaign and the music business, apparently...
Lily Allen has announced that she's stepping down from the ongoing file-sharing debate, saying that her work is done. As the Featured Artists Coalition gather at London's Air Studios today (September 24) to decide on a "unified position" over the government's proposals on the illegal sharing of music, Ms Allen claims that the gathering is the outcome she wanted.
Tweeting earlier today, Allen said, "I wont be attending the meeting because it's going to be a press frenzy and I don't want to detract from the issues. I'm proud of the fact that that I've been involved with this debate but I'm passing the baton on to other artists."
However, her backing of Lord Mandelson's proposals that persistent file-sharers should have their internet connections cut off has brought her into conflict with other artists and the public. Her blog, http://idontwanttochangetheworld.blogspot.com/ has been closed because "the abuse was getting too much".
Before the blog was shut down, Allen claimed that she was quitting the music business completely and hit back at critics who said she launched the campaign as a publicity stunt, explaining: "I have not renegotiated my record contract and have no plans to make another record. The days of me making money from recording music has been and gone as far as I'm concerned, so I don't (at this point) stand to profit from legislation."
But her people say she's concentrating on promoting her current album at the moment and that's why she has no plans for the future.
Meanwhile, the website Techdirt also claims that much of the singer's information on the issue was lifted, uncredited, from one of their features - a fact she strongly denied on her blog. However, the site then fired their own broadside at the star, claiming that her website www.lilyallenmusic.com contains two "mixtape" MP3 that Techdirt alleges is full of copyrighted material, available for free.
