Green Day Ready Their ‘Concept’ Album

First listens to ‘21st Century Breakdown’ suggest Green Day’s next record will be as epic in scale as ‘American Idiot’.
Despite the release of ‘21st Century Breakdown’ being a few months away, reports have already began filtering back that Green Day’s eighth album is as ambitious and grand as previous effort, ‘American Idiot’. US music bible Rolling Stone has reported that the 16 track album will be broken down into three ‘acts’ – Heroes And Cons, Charlatans And Saints, and Horseshoes And Handgrenades.
Speaking to alternative music magazine Alternative Press, Mike Dirnt has also suggested the album has a narrative thread running through it.
“[The songs] speak to each other the way the songs on [Bruce Springsteen’s] Born to Run speak to each other”, said the bass player. “I don’t know if you’d call it a ‘concept album,’ but there’s a thread that connects everything.”
‘21st Century Breakdown’ will be released on May 11.
